Celebrate the Easter Season

March 28th, Holy Thursday 7:00pm

Traditionally called “Maundy Thursday,” which comes from the Latin for “command”—mandatum. We recall Christ giving us a “new commandment” to love others as he loved us after washing his disciples’ feet. He did this during a Passover meal with his disciples, a meal that commemorated Israel’s liberation from the bonds of slavery. After the stripping of the altar, we depart worship in solemn silence.

March 29th, Good Friday 7:00pm

Life and death stand side by side as we enter into Good Friday. As Jesus is put on trial and sentenced to death, God reveals the power of self-emptying love. Standing with the disciples at the foot of the cross, we gather in solemn devotion, but always with the promise that the cross around which we gather is indeed a cross of life and reconciliation. We depart silently and anticipate the joy of resurrection on Easter.

March, 31st, EASTER! Services at 7:30 a.m. & 9:30 a.m. Breakfast between services, 8:30 a.m.

Christ is risen! Jesus is alive, and God has swallowed up death forever! With Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, we may feel astonished and confused, unsure of what to make of the empty tomb (Mark 16:1-8). But this is why we gather: to announce, witness, praise, and embrace the liberating reality of Christ’s death and resurrection. As the Spirit of the Risen Lord touches us, what is breaking open within us like a seed that is “dead” so that new life might thrive (John 12:24)? That promise is for us; let us celebrate it!
