This Sunday we'll have the privilege of hearing some of Daniel Bower's commentary on some songs that have been played in worship (and one that is new, I think). The Band at St. Matthew's is unique in my experience for playing what we call "secular spiritual" songs. Other churches might do something like this on rare occasions, but it is a regular feature at St. Matt's. I really appreciate it, because it finds in "secular" music-- music you would hear on the radio, for instance-- spiritual themes, lyrics and sentiments that are often upbuilding. The Spirit works in mysterious ways, even in music that isn't "churchy"! Earlier this year he started a blog on Substack, playing a song and then writing about the themes in it from a personal, spiritual point of view, aiming to write a post per week.

They are very good! There's a lot of meat in them. I encourage to you to check it out. I think it could also encourage us to think about how we share our faith, and how the Spirit speaks to us in ways outside of Sunday morning.
Peace,
Pr. Christian
